Triticale Harvest

It’s June and farmers are making their first harvest of the season.  This is Triticale.  Triticale is a hybrid of wheat and rye first developed in the 19th century in Scotland & Germany.  Triticale combines the yield potential and grain quality of wheat with the disease and environmental tolerance (including soil conditions) of rye and is mostly grown for forage and fodder.  It’s a good forage source for dry cows and replacement heifers.
